Dental restorative  materials, are used to repair damaged teeth and restore their natural appearance and function.

They are  used to fill cavities, mask discoloration, or correct alignment and contour issues. Restorative materials can also help in preventing disease and relieve pain and inflammation.
Restorative materials must be durable and inert, and able to withstand a variety of conditions, including: 
Chewing forces, Aqueous conditions, Microorganisms, pH fluctuations, Food products, Temperature swings, and Active enzymes. 

Some common restorative materials include: 
Cavity liners: Used to line the deepest part of the cavity preparation. Some examples include calcium hydroxide, dentin sealer, and cavity varnish. 
Dental bases: Another type of restorative material. 
Etching systems: Used in restorative dentistry.
