Dental home care is the daily practice of caring for your teeth at home to maintain good oral hygiene. It's important to keep up with a daily routine of home oral care, even in addition to regular dental checkups and cleanings.

Here are some tips for dental home care:

  • Brush your teeth: Brush at least twice a day, especially before bed, with an ADA-approved soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Use small circular motions and short back-and-forth strokes, gently brushing along your gum line. You can use a timer to help you brush for the recommended two minutes per mouth, or about four seconds per tooth.
Floss: Floss daily to remove plaque and food that your toothbrush can't reach. You can use dental floss, pre threaded flossers, a water flosser, or a similar product. If it's hard to hold floss, you can try a floss holder or a plastic or wooden dental pick.
Clean your tongue: Lightly brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper to help keep your mouth clean.
Replace your toothbrush: Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months.
